Dec 11, 2010 - ODC Christmas Party

Our annual Christmas Party was held at the home of Marianne Filice and Greg Smith.  There was a housefull of people and good cheer.

A big thank-you to the hosts for providing a merry atmosphere for the annual party. Everything was wonderful.

A welcome to our newest members: Steve and Patricia Winder and Fairleigh and Cil Schoolar.

New Business:

Induction of Officers for 2011:

Larry Welford performed the induction ceremony of Larry Halstead as President and Greg Smith as Wagon Master.

Larry Halstead recognized the outgoing President, Larry Welford, and Wagon Master, Bill Freed.  The group as a whole thanked them for their service.

Greg Smith announced the 2011 camping schedule:
          April 15-16 Virginia Beach
          June 17-18  Cozy Acres
          July 15-16   Misty Mountain

These three weekends are already set up.  Try to book your reservations 30 days prior to the dates.

It looks like the August trip will be to Endless Caverns and the September trip will be to Oak Grove. Details are pending for these trips.  Weekend trip captains are needed.  Please sign up.

It was approached to making the July weekend a longer campout.  The idea would be to have the weekend at Misty Mountain and then anyone wanting to, would travel to another location for an extended time. There was a positive feedback from the group, so the officers will do more planning for this weekend.

We will have a mid winter meeting in February for lunch.  Details will be provided at a later date.
The Spring Samboree will be held May 20-22 at Beth Page.

Discussion was made about our role as a Chapter in participating in future Samborees.  Not this year, but in the future maybe we could be a host chapter, or at least have a more active role.

For the Spring Samboree, the topic of fundraising was brought up.  Two ideas are in the works.  The first is to have a 50/50 fundraising motorcycle ride.  Maybe a poker run with prizes.  We will present this at the January state meeting to see if the state has a positive reaction.  It was also mentioned about liability insurance. This will be looked into.

The other idea is to have a hamburger sale.  A committee was created to organize this fundraiser.  The committee consists of Melanie Murguia, Craig Soden, Kay Karsteadt, Kay's friend, Mal, and Brad Messerle.

The email list has been updated, if there are any corrections, let Rebecca know.  Reminder: the email list is for ODC business only.

For our charitable contribution, Janice made a motion to send $50.00 from the treasury and whatever money collected from passing the hat to Micah Ministries.  Marv seconded the motion, motion was approved and the hat was passed.  $106.00 was collected in the hat.

The officers approached the group with the idea of a “camping trip fee”.  The group had a long discussion. Marv made a motion to charge $5 per person per campout (including guests).  No charge for children.  This will be for a one year test period and revisited next year for the dollar amount.  Neil seconded the motion, and it was approved.

Neil will be our representation at the VA Good Sam Winter State meeting which will be held on January 8th.  Neil has also volunteered to be our chapter's state representative.

Greg made a motion, Marv seconded the motion for Mem to send Mitch/Brenda a Thank-you note from the chapter.

Due to the late hour, we decided not to do the “pass the gifts” poem.  The toys are to be donated to the Toys for Tots organization.  The secret prize will be held for next year.

Joe will take all of the old photographs from the chapter.  Thank-you Joe!

Aug 2010 Campout - Oak Grove, VA

Campout Cooks (Ken, Larry & Chuck)

Folks Enjoying the Food!

Hope that all of you that attended this month's ODC outing arrived home safely and that you had a good time at the Harbor View Campground in Oak Grove.

As usual we had great meals and ate too much. I guess I need to take Cerise out for more walks around the neighborhood. Our hosts for the weekend (Taylors, Halsteads and Tolsons) did a fine job of keeping us all full. I even had to concede that Larry Halstead earned his "good whisking" merit badge this weekend with the scrambled eggs.

The Mooring Outside Bar was a Real Boat!

The ODC bikers got in a nice ride on Saturday that led us to the discovery of a good eating establishment in Kinsale called "The Mooring". I think we all gave it a thumbs up.  http://www.portkinsale.com/dining.aspx

A few sets of horseshoe throwing preceded our Saturday dinner. These will need to be continued at some future date to determine a champion team.

We welcome Janice Parsons back to the group. She drove her motor home to the campground with no problems. Unfortunately, she broke her foot stepping out of the coach on Friday afternoon. We wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her at future outings.

We had a little rain on our departure just to keep us from dawdling too much breaking camp.

Our next outing will be on Sep 24-26 at Country Waye Campground in Luray. This is one campground that you will all enjoy, nestled in the Shenandoah valley between the mountains. Hope you all will sign-up. You can contact the Settles f you need additional information.

Wagon Master,
Bill

Apr 2010 Campout - Virginia Beach, VA

The Holiday Trav-L-Park in Virginia Beach was the location for our April Campout and the Trip Leaders were Filice/Smith, Hornungs, Wilson/Soden and Welfords. Events included an omelet breakfast provided by the hosts. Some visited the sites around Virginia Beach and others braved a cold bike ride to the beach. After a dinner with grilled chicken and sausage and side dishes, we had desserts provided by the rest of us. We all retired to our beds to listen to the rain fall on the rooftops.

We welcomed our guests Ann (Kay Karstaedt's friend) and J. C. and Linda Calhoun.
